The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) seeks a full-time, in-person editorial associate or editor in the Editing Services department. The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible. The exact title will reflect the candidate’s experience and skill level.
AEI’s Editing Services department works with scholars, authors, and staff to help communicate ideas with maximum clarity and impact. This position will be responsible for editing and coordinating the production of reports, books, and other research projects for all research departments. In addition, this person will edit website copy, newsletters, event materials, scholar biographies, and press releases. The new editor’s portfolio will include materials of varying lengths, styles, and subjects, ranging from short, informal promotional materials to full-length books.
This position requires exceptional editing and writing skills, including mastery of English grammar and the Chicago Manual of Style, excellent attention to detail, and strong organizational and communication skills. Two to five years of professional editing experience is required, and an interest in and familiarity with public policy are strongly preferred.

Compensation is based on a number of factors, including the position’s scope and responsibilities, a candidate’s applicable full-time work experience, key skills and qualifications, and internal and external market considerations. The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $58,000–$65,000. Salary is just one component of AEI’s total compensation package for employees.
