Overview

The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) seeks an audiovisual (AV) studio production associate to support AV operations in person at AEI’s headquarters and on the AV production team.


The ideal candidate is a multifunctional team member who would work closely with the Events department, the larger information technology team, and all those requiring assistance with AV equipment and production. The production associate will work primarily on live events and meetings in AEI’s spaces but will also occasionally support the communications team’s Video department with media projects.

 

The ideal applicant possesses an outstanding customer service–oriented attitude and excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate must be comfortable working in and adapting to live situations and interacting with people of various cultures, technical capabilities, and levels of event experience. This position requires occasional work outside normal business hours.

 

The ideal applicant has experience working with various AV systems for events and meetings. They must be punctual, self-motivated, and professional. This opportunity involves events about policy that feature senior policy decision-makers.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, control, and break down AV systems for live events and meetings.
  • Operate video equipment for recordings and livestreams.
  • Operate audio equipment and mix sound for events featuring speakers.
  • Encode video to livestreaming platforms.
  • Act as technical director for small productions.
  • Manage media, including audio and video recordings and image files for graphics.
  • Train relevant staff to use AV equipment in various spaces.
  • Instruct and interact with speakers before, during, and after events.

Physical requirements and working conditions at AEI:

  • The employee is regularly expected to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard. This job requires close vision abilities due to computer work.
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
  • The employee must be able to work in a confined area.
  • Moderate noise (e.g., from computers, phone, printers, and light traffic) is expected.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have one to two years of experience working with AV systems for a conference center or in another corporate setting. Alternatively, they should have experience working with video, audio, or media in a live production setting.
  • Previous technical experience should include the following:
    • Using AV control systems, such as Crestron;
    • Operating pan-tilt-zoom cameras and switching among multiple cameras;
    • Operating audio consoles and microphones for live sound;
    • Controlling simple lighting systems;
    • Using video teleconferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Skype, and Zoom;
    • Using Mac and Windows operating systems; and
    • Editing video and audio on a basic level (appreciated but not required).

Compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: scope and responsibilities of the position; a candidate's full-time, applicable work experience; key skills and qualifications; as well as internal and external market considerations. The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $55,000 - $60,000. Salary is just one component of AEI’s total compensation package for employees.
