The American Enterprise Institute is inviting candidates to apply for an open scholar position in the Jeane Kirkpatrick Fellowship Program in Foreign and Defense Policy Studies. The program is open to post-doctorate mid-career academics, government, and civilian professionals in foreign policy and security studies who are looking for an opportunity to deepen their work.
The program begins in Fall/Winter 2024, although the starting date for new Jeane Kirkpatrick scholars is negotiable to accommodate existing personal and professional obligations. The program’s duration is one year from the start date, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Guided by the belief that American liberties are best preserved by a robust national defense and US global leadership, senior research fellows will conduct in-depth research to produce policy recommendations intended to enhance American security and interests. AEI will assist fellows in developing and disseminating their research by providing the support and training needed to publish serious longer works, place their work in the nation’s most-read publications, brief policymakers, and host public and private events at the Institute.
